TI helped drive the first revolution in wireless by creating low-cost voice handsets for new subscribers worldwide. Now, the wireless team’s OMAP™ applications processor family and wireless connectivity solutions place TI as a top leader in the mobile device market, with solutions in smartphones, tablets, eReaders and other mobile and consumer devices. TI also offers the broadest portfolio of wireless connectivity solutions ranging from multi-radio, co-existence platforms, such as the WiLink™ solutions, to low-energy connectivity technology to support a variety of cross-market applications.

TI’s wireless business has shipped more than 250 million OMAP processors and more than one billion wireless connectivity chipsets to date, including WiFi™, Bluetooth®, GPS, sub-1Ghz, ZigBee® and proprietary 2.4 Ghz offerings. With silicon-rich smartphones expected to represent an estimated one-third of the total available handset market by 2012, TI will continue to hold a stake in this market.

OMAP™ applications processors

The high-performance, low-power applications processor technology offered by TI’s OMAP platform drives the multimedia-rich mobile computing capabilities required by the always-on mobile device. TI launched the OMAP product line in the late 1990s, becoming the first applications processor designed specifically for mobile phones. The widely adopted OMAP 3 and OMAP 4 platforms lead the way in high-performance, low-power mobile processing advancements. Even more mobile enhancements will be possible with TI’s OMAP 5 platform.

Wireless connectivity solutions

TI launched its first connectivity products in the early 2000s, leading the way in coexistence and integration advancements. TI was the first to combine Bluetooth®, WiFi™, GPS and FM technologies on a single chip, the WiLink™ 7.0 solution.
